READ the Davis’ family story in their own words!

May 24, 2008

The Joseph Davis family lives in Cedar Hill, Texas.  They are living proof of the benefits of adult stem cells and the collection and availability of umbilical cord blood for treatment and research in Texas.  The family includes Joseph Davis, Sr, father/husband, Darlene Davis, mother/wife, Joseph Davis II, son, and Isaac Davis, son.

Joseph Davis II was born in 1999 with the life-threatening sickness of sickle-cell anemia.  For over a year, his family could not find an adult stem cell or umbilical cord blood donor match.  Joseph II had to endure frequent hospitalizations, many which were very painful, and he had to take strong narcotic medication.

Darlene found it very difficult to become pregnant with Joseph II.  She and her husband were so pleasantly surprised when she was able to become pregnant first with Joseph II in 1999 and, miraculously, then again 2 ½ years later, this time with Isaac in 2002.  Isaac was not afflicted with sickle-cell anemia and he was a perfect match for adult stem cell and umbilical cord blood donation for Joseph II.  The adult stem cell and cord blood transplant procedure was performed in Dallas, Texas, at Medical City Dallas Hospital.  The procedure was successful and Joseph II was healed of sickle-cell anemia.  Without this transplant of adult stem cells/umbilical cord blood, Joseph II would not have survived.

The Joseph Davis family testified during the 80th Texas Legislative Session in favor of HB 709, which was signed into law.  This new Texas law requires that a brochure be provided to pregnant women with educational information concerning the collection, donation, processing, and storage of umbilical cord blood, which is rich in adult stem cells.

The Joseph Davis family, upon request, has also traveled to many other states legislative bodies to promote support for and awareness of the life-saving technology of adult stem cells and umbilical cord blood.

Please watch this gripping video about the miracle of adult stem cells and cord blood and how Joseph II’s life was saved by his little brother Isaac.

The Joseph Davis family urges the State of Texas to be a leader in the medical field by continuing to invest in and promote the life-saving technology of adult stem cell research and treatment; while continuing to invest in and promote the life-saving efforts of collection and storage of umbilical cord blood in Texas.

Joseph II calls his little brother, Isaac, “Superman” because he saved his life with the adult stem cells in his umbilical cord blood.  More children and adults in Texas can also be saved with the continued support of adult stem cell treatments and research and umbilical cord blood collection, donation and storage for life saving transplants.
