Eye on ’09: Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA)

President Obama promised that one of the first things he will do as President is to sign into law the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA), but what does that mean for all the pro-life laws already in effect?

The Freedom of Choice Act would establish abortion on-demand as a fundamental right of every American, basically making it the same as the right to vote and the right to free speech.  It would apply to every law relating to abortion on federal, state, and local levels, and would effectively erase all laws that put any restriction on abortion, including laws against partial-birth abortion and even basic parental notification laws.  Basically, FOCA would nullify all laws related to abortion, up to 250 to 300 in the states and nationally, including erasing the ban on partial birth abortion and all parental notification and consent laws.

One Response to Eye on ’09: Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA)

  1. Ronni Jenkins says:

This FOCA grieves me. We are supposed to be proud of how far we have come as a nation in electing the first man of African descent to the highest office in the land. I wish I could rejoice with the millions who are so euphoric about this event. Let me tell you what knocks the cherry off that sundae for me.

Truly, I do not believe that we have advanced the case for human rights in this election. We elected a man believes that the most precious and innocent of all living creatures is not worthy of constitutional protections. It nauseates me to see the abuse suffered by Black Americans over the centuries. I can’t believe that I was born into a country with such hypocrisy at its very base– that human beings could be so horribly mistreated. The irony is that while Black Americans had to fight for their rights by refusing to sit in the backs of buses or attend inferior segregated schools, the unborn of this nation can’t even do that. They can’t speak, protest, march to the front of a bus or otherwise make themselves heard. Our President is okay with that? We still have hypocrisy as our foundation, with the chief hypocrite at the helm.

I do pray that God holds our 44th President accountable to his profession of faith in Jesus Christ and turns his heart to the plight of the unborn.
