Last week, the full Senate heard Sen. Dan Patrick’s ultrasound bill, SB 182, and may vote on it as early as Wednesday or possibly Thursday. This bill requires that an ultrasound be performed on a woman considering abortion and that the woman is offered an opportunity to view the ultrasound image and hear her baby’s heartbeat. The pregnant woman is not required to view the ultrasound image or hear the heartbeat. In other states where this has been passed, it has resulted in saving thousands and thousands of lives. Phone Script for calling your Senator:
My name is ___ and I am a voter in your district (give your address or hometown). I’m calling to ask you to vote for SB 182, the ultrasound bill. I believe this bill would protect women and save many lives, and would appreciate your vote for SB 182! Please know this is a very important bill to me, and I would like to know if the Senator will be supporting it.
One possible response you may get when calling your Senator is the objection that passing the ultrasound bill would just make government bigger. Here’s the truth: since when has the state of Texas stopped patients from seeing their own medical info?
